Making A Greenland Paddle

Whilst working on my Inuit paddle book I decided that I also had to make a paddle (you can’'t design a whole section about making something without having a go!). So me and two friends set aside a weekend of sawing, sanding, planing and spoke-shaving, to each craft our own unique West Greenland kayak paddle. Here are some photos.

Finished Paddle

All photographs by Luke Blick, except the last one of the finished paddle.

The process was incredibly good fun (we made quite a bit of noise – probably annoyed the neighbours) and the paddle, though it does take a bit of getting used to, is great fun to use in the sea and surf.
